The Ionia County Genealogical Society has graciously offered to host a special WMGS day at their research room in Lake Odessa. The room is at the Freight Station Museum, directly behind the Lake Odessa Area Historical Society Depot Museum at 1117 Emerson Street, Lake Odessa, MI.

When? Saturday April 24th from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (ish). The day will include a tour of what is available in their sizable collection of Ionia County resources. A lunch will be provided (for a donation). Learn about the First Families of Ionia County Society. They also have wireless Internet if you want to bring your laptop. We do need to have people sign-up so the number of attendees can be properly planned for. Please email me at before April 15th if you’d like to attend.

We will attempt to coordinate carpooling rides from Grand Rapids. If you are interested, please provide your address and phone number in your email.

Pam Swiler, President of ICGS informed me how the lunch will be handled. “They will have a jar/bowl where you order & pick up your food at the kitchen.  Each individual can give a free will donation for what they order. At least $5 for a full lunch is suggested which includes a beverage.  Coffee is available all day long, so again, free will donations are appreciated.”

“John Waite, President of Lake Odessa Area Historical Society normally prepares the food and he is a bit of a gourmet, depending on his mood.  He normally prepares a soup, sandwich, dessert, and then sometimes there is a surprise!  All very good and tasty.  We never know what the menu will be, so it is sort of a ‘chef’s surprise.’  We have never been disappointed.”

And since you will be in Lake Odessa, plan to visit the Depot Museum where there will also be a rummage sale going on that day. Hope you get a chance to join us for this great opportunity to research your Ionia County families.
